Woodworking Workbench build - Top with Breadboard ends
In the second part of the woodworking workbench build I make the top out of the same pine beams as the base. The are cut and milled, glued up using biscuits to align everything because there was a little bit of movement in some of the pieces. Next I added some breadboard ends to either side of the workbench, held on with a little bit of glue in the middle and 4 drawbore oak dowels.
The top is bolted to the base with 3 bolt per side through elongated holes to allow some movementent. The entire workbench is finished with a few coats of hardwax oil. In the future I will add an apron, vises and dog holes.

Woodworking Workbench Build - The Base
Просмотров 1,3 тыс.3 года назад
In this video I start buiding my traditional-ish woodworking workbench out of pine beams. These are cut and milled to size and I use mortis and tenon joinery to construct the base. The mortises are made with my new (old) mortising attachment of my planer/jointer. This creates a very solid base with absolutly no movement, even without glue it was surprisingly solid. Next up the top! Watch the ma...
DIY Drum Sander Part 1
Просмотров 59 тыс.4 года назад
In this video I make a drum sander from some repurposed plywood, PVC drainpipe and an old waterpump motor I had laying around. The drum sander is an open ended design, based on pictures I saw of the JET drum sanders. I had my doubts this would be strong enough when made from wood, but deflection seems to be minimal and it gives great results. I obviously watched the other drum sander builds on ...
Making a simple bookcase
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.5 лет назад
Video of me making a bookcase out of 1.5 sheets of particleboard. I made this for myself and it needed to be fast and cheap. Yes I do realise this is basically an 'ikea' bookcase, so I treated this bookcase build as an exercise to try out a few things. The bookcase turned out quite well, it's very sturdy and holds a lot of books. Thanks for watching! Please like, comment and subscribe.
Blade Guides Prototype - Big Old Bandsaw Pt. 2
Просмотров 2,4 тыс.5 лет назад
A few of month ago I cleaned and painted an old big-ish cast iron bandsaw. Now I make a quick prototype for the blade guides I had in mind for this saw. I used stuff I had lying around, I only ordered the bearings. These blade guides seem to work just fine and are easy to adjust (almost toolless)! Next up is the enclosure and motor. Thanks for watching!
Making a Pallet Wood Outdoor Lounge Set
Просмотров 200 тыс.5 лет назад
I make a simple outdoor lounge set from pallet wood. I wanted to do something a little bit different than just stacking pallets on top of each other, put some pillows on top and call it done. This lounge set did take a little bit longer to make and a few more pallets, but it was worth it. I made these 5 chairs and 1 table from 12 pallets. There was quite a bit of waste, most of which I turned i...
Plywood & Aluminium Jointer Guard
Просмотров 7 тыс.6 лет назад
Making a bridge guard for a jointer from plywood and aluminium. Recently I acquired 2 bigger, old cast iron woodworking tools. The first a bandsaw and second a jointer or surface planer. These old tools work great but they are from a time before health and safety. So to add some degree of safety to this tool I made a European style or bridge guard for the jointer form scraps of plywood and alum...
A Big Old Bandsaw - Pt.1
Просмотров 19 тыс.6 лет назад
I always loved the shape and look of old cast iron bandsaws. The really big (80cm wheels) are really imposing and difficult to move. So I bought a medium sized bandsaw with 50cm (20") wheels. In this first part I clean every little part of this dust encrusted machine thoroughly and give it a fresh coat matt black paint for the main frame and high gloss black for the wheels and little knobs and ...
Making three stretched canvases for tryptic

Making three stretched canvases for a tryptic painting. First I made 3 identical sets of stretcher bars from pine, glueds, screwed and nailed. Next I stretched some primed canvas over them. This was my first time stretching canvas from zero. In the video some ripples may be visible at some spots, I did adress those later on of camera so canvas was nice and tight. I painted a water colour effect...
Improving My Universal Dowel Jig - Guide Bushings

I made an universal dowel jig several months ago. This jig is based in the front portion of a biscuit joiner, domino, doweller,... ut to used with a regular hand drill. this universal dowel jig akes it very easy to drill holes for dowels very accurate, easy and fast. A lot faster than regular dowel jigs on the market wich are very slow in use. In the first version of this universal dowel jig I ...
Huge Batman & Gotham painting
Просмотров 3,5 тыс.6 лет назад
I make a huge painting with Batman overlooking Gotham City. This is a scene from the recent Batman comic by Marini (Batman: The Dark Prince Charming pt1), highly recommended by the way! I wanted to paint this on a large scale. I first made a braced panel with 5mm plywood measuring 157x122cm and some pine for the bracing frame on the back. First I filled the nail holes, sanded and primed the pan...
Making an Acoustic Guitar - Super Fast
Просмотров 3,5 млн6 лет назад
Last summer I made an acoustic guitar, my first one. I made the guitar from a bunch of free and scrap wood I already had so I did not have to spend a lot of money on something I would mess up for sure. I made a long, not sped up video of the whole process at the time. Now I condensed my entire guitar making video from a whopping 45 minutes to a short and sweet 6 minutes of acoustic guitar makin...
Leather Camera Pouch - Sony RX100
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.6 лет назад
I make a leather pouch for my camera. A sony rx100 in my case, but the process can be adapted for any (compact)camera. The leather for this camera pouch is reclaimed from an old purse. Wet formed over a MDF model of the RX100, the strap came as is from the purse. The belt loop was an after thought as I don't like to wear stuff on the belt, but it might come in handy. Thanks for watching! Hit li...
Making Paper Micarta
Просмотров 27 тыс.6 лет назад
.. For knife liners and scales. End December I made a bunch paper micarta in different colours. I used paper, epoxy and a bit of acetone to thin it down. The micarta stock for liners is made with 2 to 4 layers of paper. The thicker micarta sheets for scales are made with 20 to 30 layers of paper. I used some old left over epoxy that is veeeery slow curing. It had to be thinned down a little bit...
Making a Modern Kitchen Knife Block
Просмотров 2,2 тыс.6 лет назад
I make a modern looking kitchen knife block. I have a bunch ( too many? Nope... no such thing exists) of kitching knifes, of all kinds and they didn't all fit into my old knife block. So I made a new one out of some old mahogany I had. This knife holder has lots of space for many different kitchen knives, as well as room for the honing steel. This design of knife holder is made with a simple fi...

I have never backed one of my crossbow prods, mainly because I make them out of young dogwood, so they are crowned. Might try a board version and back it this way. Wood crossbow prods are more or less a disposable item anyway, but they generally last a year or so of hard shooting. Long enough for another piece of dogwood to season.

    • @RobinCoomans

Hi Randall, it's very study and quite flat still, so I would not do anything different.. besides actually try tofinish it someday! I added a cabinet with drawers between the legs for my handtools, but I never mounted the apron and vise. At this point I have a small business and mainly work with sheetgoods.. so it now serves more as table to put parts on than as a real workbench I'm afraid.
